- Do you find it hard to relax?
- Are you under pressure to achieve your goals, worried about making wrong decisions, worried about what people will think of you?
- Are you looking for relaxation techniques for stress relief that work for you?
I help people of all ages learn relaxation techniques for stress relief, allowing them to be more effective and happy.
Stress Symptoms in Daily Life
My clients often tell me they find it hard to switch off at the end of the day. They say it’s almost as if their problems from the day are carried in from work to the house in the evening, and even into the bedroom at night – so much so that they find it difficult to sleep.
Being worked up all the time isn’t fun, especially when you know you really need to take a break, unwind a bit, and breathe easy.
Playing the problems over and over in your mind until you feel tense and agitated is not the best solution, yet people who don’t know how to relax the mind easily find themselves doing that.
How Stress Impacts Your Body
When you are not relaxed your mind starts racing about and your muscles tense up. Your sympathetic nervous system is triggered and the ‘fight or flight’ mechanism is activated.
Relaxation, on the other hand, triggers the para-sympathetic nervous system where you can breathe easily and your muscles work at their best.
It is the opposite of the ‘fight or flight’ response and is referred to as the ‘relaxation response’. This is your body’s ability to experience a decrease in heart rate, respiration rate, blood pressure, muscle tension, and oxygen consumption.
Relaxation Techniques – The Right Way
There is a right way and a wrong way to learn relaxation techniques for stress relief. In our sessions, I’ll show you what to do to relax without working hard on it.
Working hard at relaxing often has a counter effect and sometimes people can end up with other unwanted issues – like binge drinking or eating.
You will learn to relax in natural ways that allow your body and mind to slow down quickly, and easily.
These include ways of relaxing using breathing techniques, meditation, body posture and more, depending on your particular needs. You can use these techniques when you are outside your home, like before an important presentation at work, or while competing in a sport.
I will also teach you how to relax the mind using the best techniques such as reducing any critical self talk and maintaining a positive self image, i.e. helping you get out of your mind and more into your life.
You will learn how to manage your emotions better so they don’t get the better of you. These life skills can serve you in so many ways and help you achieve your outcomes.
So talk to me about making changes for the better – I’m here to help.
